    -One of the 4,000 Aboriginals who served in the war
    -He was apart of the second battle of Ypres and experienced the chlorine gases.
    -"when the war was over, He had become one of the most highly decorated Indigenous soldiers in Canadian military history"
    -" first awarded the military medal in 1916, he earned two bars for his excellence as a sniper and scout in the battles of Ypres, Passchendaele, Amiens, and the second battle of Arras. Only 38 other Canadian men receive the honour of 2 bars

  • Billy Bishop

    -"Was Canada's top flying ace of the First World War with 72 victories to his name"
    -He did great wonders for Canada and advanced Canada's Air Force
    -Billy survived the odds and lived longer than most pilots
    -He convinced people that more pilots were needed in the war
    -Even though there were many risks of flying planes Billy Bishop took on the role
    -Many people see him as a role model.

  • Second Battle of Ypres

    -Canada's first Major battle.
    -Canada was very out numbered and were faced with the first use of chlorine gas.
    -"A third of the force, or 6,000 soldiers, were killed, wounded, or captured, but the Canadians kept the Germans from breaking through.
    I think this was a time of progress for Canada.

  • Le Boutillier, Temblay and French Canadian soldiers

    -French Canadian soldiers were not taken seriously in the military due to them having difficulty reading the English manuals
    -That did stop them from going to war
    -Unfortunately when they joined the Newfoundland Regiment they suffered tremendously after the first day of battle, July 1st
    -Of the 801 men that went to war, only 68 of them were not killed or wounded

  • "Enemy aliens"

    -"Enemy Aliens" refers to people with families that have a background with the enemy country
    -"some (8,579) "enemy aliens"were interned behind barbed wire to remove the supposed threat, while tens of thousands more were forced to register with authorities and abide by stringent rues of conduct for the duration of war"
    -they were manipulating innocent immigrants just because of there background

  • Jeremiah Jones and Black Canadian Soldiers

    -Black soldiers were often placed at construction rather than enlisted in battalions
    -He was among the 16 black soldiers assigned to the Royal Canadian Regiment at Vimy Ridge
    -"during the battle of Vimy ridge in April of 1917, Jones rescued his unit from an enemy machine gun nest in what was to become a battle that is known as Canada's greatest success and source of great national pride"
    -His action was heroic but more importantly he had also proven a black mans worth in a white mans army

  • Mae Belle Sampson, Katherine MacDonald and the nurses overseas

    -nursing was the main job for women in the war
    -Katherine MacDonald was a nurse who lost her life at the age of 25 due to an enemy air attack on the 1st Canadian General Hospital
    -Mae Belle Sampson was the first nurse in the Hamilton area to enlist for service overseas, in Britain she treated 15,000 troops with only 2,000 beds
    -the ship that was marked with red crosses lit up at night. Of the 258 people only 24 survived, all 14 nursed including Mae Belle Sampson were dead

    -" Canada couldn't compete with the Americans so they set up branch plants. The products were still "made in Canada" so the companies could avoid paying taxes/tariffs at the border"
