The New England Colonies were Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Most of these colonies were known for their shipbuilding and export of Rum.A lot of merchants and craftsmen lived here. Next the middle colonies consisted of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. -

Logging, Shipbuilding and their textile production was important among this colony.The middle colonies had a lot of religions scattered. Finally the Southern colonies were Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. They relied heavily on farming and slave plantations. Not a lot of cities were here just a lot of farming and plantations. -
Massachusetts
Founded by King of England and was used to charter puritans for religious reasons. The puritans goal was to purify the church of England because they didn't agree with the way they wanted to practice their own faith. -
New Hampshire
This colony was founded by Captain John Mason for fishing purposes. A lot of people made their living by fishing, whaling and shipbuilding. -
North Carolina
The climate here was different consisting of warm weather and lack of cold winters. The North Carolina was originally one colony but divided into the north and south. -
Maryland
Lord Baltimore wanted a colony that served as a refuge for Catholics. Maryland passed the first law that encouraged religious tolerance in the new world. -
Connecticut
This colony was established by a minster named Thomas Hooker who had puritan beliefs. He didn't like that the colony was being led by the people and not Gods Will -
Rhode Island
This colony was founded by people of who wanted to escape the lack of religious tolerance from other New England Colonies. Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams. -
Delaware
This colony was founded by Peter Minuit and was known as the breadbasket colony because they grew a lot of wheat and would later ship the end product to England. -
New York
Duke of York takes over former dutch trading post and renames it New York city. This colony was also know as the breadbasket because of its abundant wheat production. -
New Jersey
New Jersey was founded by Sir George Carter and Lord Berkeley. This colony was named after the British colony Jersey. -
Pennsylvania
William Penn founds this colony for Quakers who are escaping persecution for their religion. He was also awarded a charter from King Charles 2 -
South Carolina
South Carolina allowed religious freedom but a lot of people owned slaves. -
Georgia
James Oglethorpe founded this colony. Georgia acted as a barrier between Spain and British colonies. This was the last of the 13 colonies to be established from Great Britain.
