The first defection
Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Joe Anglin announces ahead of a caucus meeting he will leave Wildrose to sit as an Independent. Smith later confirms she planned to introduce a motion to expel Anglin from caucus. -
Discontent deepens
Smith and MLA Rob Anderson announce the leadership review had been scrapped after caucus affirmed their support for the leader. Smith accuses Anglin of secretly recording caucus meetings — which he denies — but acknowledges she does not have proof. -
Win or step down
Smith says at the party’s AGM that she will step down if the party does not win the 2016 election. In a speech to delegates, she says the party must chart a new course if it wants to form government. Delegates reject a new, more definitive, party policy on equality that Smith had championed. -
Double defection
Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA Kerry Towle and Little Bow MLA Ian Donovan cross the floor to join Premier Jim Prentice's Progressive Conservative government.
