  • Two atomic bombs were dropped in Japan

    Two atomic bombs were  dropped in Japan
    From December 6th the atomic bomb named Little Boy was dropped in Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb was dropped by the United States of America. Two days later the atomic bomb named Fat Man was dropped in another Japan city called Nagasaki. This was significant because this led to the end of WW2 after Japan surrendered to the US.

    My Great Grandpa became the first treasurer for the central bank in Pakistan
    On September 11, 1948 my great grandpa was the first treasurer of the central bank of Pakistan. After the India and Pakistan divide my Great Grandpa got hired to divide the stuff that belonged to Pakistan and India. This was very significant because our family name got well known across Karachi.

    NATO  was formed
    On April 4, 1949 countries such as Canada, United States, Italy, and Portugal and so on signed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO was a military alliance signed by North America and Europe with hopes to prevent the USSR from expanding their ideas. In response to this the USSR created the Warsaw Pact. This was significant because this treaty is still used today and prevented so many conflicts.

    June 25, 1950 when North Korean Soldiers crossed the 38th parallel. South Koreans responded by defending their part. The USSR was involved because although they didn’t send soldiers to help invade South Korea they provided North Koreans with weapons. The war happened because Ho Chi Minh wanted to reunify his country. Canada and US sent soldiers to South Korea to help. This was significant because this was the first armed conflict in the cold war.

    On June 17 1953 Chevrolet introduced the first ever Corvette in GM Motorama show in New York. The car was made due the demend of people wanting to go faster. This is significant because this car is an icon for the motoring industry and was an icon for Chevrolet and still is.

    NORAD was formed
    On May 12, 1958 the United States and Canada signed the North American Air Defense Agreement. This act was made as a surveillance system to protect the possible threat of nuclear missiles from the Soviet Union. If any planes came without a reason or not responding, planes would be sent from the Colorado air base to deal with the problem. NORAD was significant because this played a huge role in the Cold War and showed how scared people were of a nuclear bomb attack.

    My dads uncle became the first engineer in the family
    Rizwan Shaikh went to America to study to become the first engineer in our family. After being very successful in America he moved back home and imported a 1957 Chevrolet Impala from the US. This was significant because he was the first engineer in our family and inspired other family members to also become engineers. Also he was the first person in our family to have a car.

    On October 13, 1962 the Cuban missile crisis started, this was between America and Cuba. This started because the Soviet Union moved nuclear missiles to Cuba. America was afraid and warned Cuba, but Cuba did not back down. America then put nuclear missiles in Turkey. Afraid things might get destructive a compromise was made. This is significant because this was a very tense time because WW3 could have started because of this.

    FLQ was formed
    The FLQ was a terrorist group that wanted Quebec to be free and using dangerous methods to prove their points. The FLQ caused the government to introduce the war measure act. The FLQ made a major part in the October crises. That is why the FLQ is significant.

    Canada unferls its new flag
    On February 15, 1965. after searching for so long the flag design with a maple leaf and red on both sides was selected. The design was made by George Stanley. Pearson wanted to change the flag from a long time ago. He also wanted people to know that Canada is independent from Britain. This is significant because this shows Canada is a independent nation and is the first time the flag doesn’t have the Union Jack

    Lester B Pearson gets elected prime minister
    On April 22 1963 Lester Pearson became the prime minster in Canada. He got elected due to the many amazing things he did. This is significant because Pearson did many things that impacted the world such as: he solved the Suez crisis making him win the noble peace prize.

    On February 15, 1969 in Karachi Pakistan, Tariq Shaikh was born in a family being the third youngest out of 5 siblings. His birth was significant because without him I won’t be born. Also because when he was born his parents decided to move to bigger house which ultimately lead them to the house my grandparents are living in now.

    On January 11, 1973. Shaista Shahjahan was born in Karachi Pakistan. She is the middle child of 4 siblings in total. This is significant because without her I wouldn’t be here.

    In 1974 during the October crisis the Parti Quebecois introduced the official language act (bill22) It was important because this bill meant that French became the only official civil language making Anglophones outraged.
  • First family member to come to Canada

    First family member to come to Canada
    Mushtaq Fazlani was the first person to immigrate to Canada in our whole family. He immigrated because he heard of all the opportunities in Canada. This was significant because he convinced other family members to also immigrate to Canada.
