Semaphore
Before the invention of the telegraph, semaphore signaling from high towers was used to transmit messages between distant points. One such system was developed by Claude Chappe in France in 1794, employing a set of arms that pivoted on a post; the arms were mounted on towers spaced 5 to 10 miles (8 to 16 km) apart. -

In 1858, the first telegraph cable was laid across the Atlantic Ocean. It was both the culmination of years of effort and the first tentative step to a practical, permanent communications link between Britain and the US. -

The first form of writing via a machine. It is the conecpt of a machine that can help people write. This is also the very first concept for a computer. -

The telephone was invented by Alexander Bell in 1876, or, at least, it was Bell who installed the world's first commercial telephone service in 1877. -
Heliograph
The first invention to project an image onto a wall. Same concept as the projector we use today. This helped people have a better understanding of the world around them. -
Radio
The invention of a radio is in 1910, but on August 20, 1920, the radio station WWJ, known then by its call sign 8MK, aired the first public broadcast ever at 8:15 p.m. -
Television
The invention of television is one of the most important events in globalization. It puts the world into a metal box. -
Answering Machines
Willy Müller invented the first automatic answering machine in 1935. This answering machine was a three-foot-tall machine popular with Orthodox Jews who were forbidden to answer the phone on the Sabbath. -
Mobile phone
The first mobile phone is installed in 1946. This made communication easier and can be accessed in more places. -
Long playing Records (LP records)
An format for phonograph records introduced by Columbia Records in 1948. These records are made out of vinyl, and has a rpm of 33⅓. This means that it can contain 10 times as much music on it. There were two versions of the LP records. 12 inches and 10 inches. However the 10 inches records were not mass produced. -
Microchip
Invented by Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce in 1959. This is the first step towards the computers we have now. The microchip is made out of silicon and has integrated circuits. However, the idea of the microchip might not have even been considered if it was not for the invention of computer and the potential it showed. -
Selectric typewriter
The selectric typewriter introduced a new type of typewriter. It uses a "golf ball" for the letters and punctuations. This allowed for more precious when typing. -
Fax Machine
Fax machine allowed people to send documents to each other without the use of mail. Making long communication faster and easier. -
Floppy Disks
Floppy disks are one of the first storage devices. It is extremely portable because of it's size. This helped people sharing ideas and documents. -

ARPANET was the first attempt at internet. However it is only a closed network. The invention helped to make the first computer to computer interation. -

The invention of the cordless phone made communication available everywhere. -
Laptop
The laptop was invented by Xerox PARC company. Before this, there were only the big, non-portable computers. This helped the world to carry a computer anywhere they want. -

The Windows program was created in 1985. It was a very new and innovative computer program. This program is still used today and is easily accessable. -

The World Wide Web is the standard form of internet nowadays, but it started in 1989. This connected the entire world together in less than 25 years. -

Google started off with two university students trying to find a way to sort information on the web. Now it became the most essential piece of web. It helps people find information faster and easier. -

Facebook is a social website that connects the world together. People can share their lives with other with a click of a button. -
Youtube
The biggest video sharing site today, was created in 2005. It help people gather information and share videos. -
Smoke signal
This is the very first attempt at communication. Even though it was created 2000 years ago, we still use it today for emergency situations.
