Prayer(Teri Stewart)
Perhaps the greatest controversy surrounding education in the 1980s concerned religion in the classroom. Supported by President Reagan, who wanted prayer to be part of the curriculum in all schools, some parents and religious groups fought to change the textbooks used by students nationwide. They filed lawsuits hoping to have their religious views adopted in place of established scientific and historical information. In almost every occurrence, the courts eventually ruled against them. -
NCAA (Teri Stewart)
In a controversial move, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA; national organization that administers inter-collegiate athletics) adopted Proposition 48 in 1984. This set academic levels that graduating high-school students had to meet in order to participate in collegiate athletic programs. -
Bishop College in DTX closes- JalynH.
Bishop College, an HBCU, saw many peaks and valleys during its existence. Initially located in Marshall, TX, the institution relocated to Dallas, attracting more students. Financial scandals led to the retracting of its accreditation and eligibility of funds from UNCF. Paul Quinn College now uses the campus. -

Facebook is an online social media and social networking service. It was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with fellow Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Membership was initially limited to Harvard students, gradually expanding to other North American universities and, since 2006, anyone over 13 years old. -
DCCCD gets accreditation approval to become Dallas College - Q.Johnson
On Aug. 20, 2019, the DCCCD Board of Trustees approved the move to one college. On Feb. 4, 2020 they approved the name Dallas College. Dallas College originally operated as a district of seven independently accredited colleges but now is united under a single name in order to offer students a more streamlined, more convenient experience. The seven original campuses live on as our primary locations.
