Theodore Roosevelt Arrives in Brazil
Theodore R. was invited to Brazil as a guest speaker, he agreed to go since his son lived in Brazil and he wanted to escape the United States after loosing the presidential election. -
Theodore is invited on River of Doubt Expedition
As a famous outdoorsman, Theodore was invited to map out the path of the Rio Da Duvida or "River of Doubt" with Colonel Candido Randon and his son Kermit. -
Start Down the River of Doubt
The expedition starts off with a total of roughly 20 men and was intended as a simple tour and mapping session, but things quickly got out of control. -
Reach Headwaters of the River of Doubt
It took the group roughly a month to pass the Brazilian Highlands and through this journey, they lost many of the resources including pack mules, oxen and many provisions of food -
Launch Boats down the River
The seven battered and worn dugout canoes they had brought with them were set off down the river with the men in them but were sound found to sit only inches above the pirahna and caimen infested water which made it very difficult to maneuver. -
Expedition looses a man
While facing danerous rapids, one of the members fell out of the boat and died in the rapids where Kermit only 24 at the time almost faced the same fate. -
The Expedition Meets Malaria
While passing through the woods since the river proved to dangerous in this section, many of the expedition members, including Theodore and Kermit, contracted malaria from biting insects -
Another Member dies
A Brazilian porter driven mad by starvation and desperation, murdered another man from the expedition. -
The impassible WaterFalls
The group was about to give wup when they came upon 30 ft waterfalls. Although the expedition was saved by Kermit since he had an extensive knowledge of bridges and ropes and figured out a way to lower the canoes down the falls. -
The End of the Expedition
The expedition came to an end and the final head count hovered around 7. A ship was signaled and the party was taken to New York where Theodore quickly got medical help.
