The Mercury-Redstone 3 mission took place only three weeks after the Russians had put the first ever human (Yuri Gagarin) into space, and put Shepard in space for a short 15 minutes, only 4 of which were in zero-G.
  • USSR: Vostok 6

    USSR: Vostok 6
Vostok 6 was the last mission of the Russia Vostok program, and was the first to put a woman (Valentina Tereshkova) into space.
