The Race
Charlie skips school and enters a race to do runs for Squizzy Taylor. Squizzy rigged Charlies egg's and he won. This is also where Charlie's and Nostrils friendship starts. -
Denying and Ignoring
A letter from Squizzy is sent to the Feehan's home, Charlie's mother reads it and says no to the job but Charlie ignore his mother and starts working for Squizzy anyway. -
New shoes, New job
Heading over to Squizzy's home Charlie is greeted by Dolly who is Squizzy's girlfriend. Dolly gives him new leather boots, they don't fit but Charlie doesn't want to offend her so he stays quiet. -
Chased by Barlow
When Charlie and Nostrils are mucking around any playing football Jimmy Barlow comes near them and after some banter Barlow and his friends start chasing the boys, stealing their footy. -
Liquor Run
Charlie does his first liquor run and asks Nostrils to accompany him and he agrees. Being their first run Nostrils is anxious but a natural at the job. -
Bloodied Bat
Charlie comes back from a run only to see that his mother had been hit by Mr. Peacock. Livid charlie grabs a cricket bat and hits Mr. P over the head and knocks him unconscious. -
Boxing
Mr. Redmond gets Charlie into boxing but so far he isn't the best and Mr. Redmond keeps reminding him about the two f's which are finkin and footwork. -
Richmond Hill
Earlier Nostrils told Charlie about Richmond hill, playing his game the main offender Nostrils is playing against is Jimmy Barlow. Charlie also see's Alice who he is quickly falling for. -
Hospital
During a run with Nostrils they encounter Jimmy Barlow and his gang, they attack the boys, Nostrils tells Charlie to run which he does. From far away Charlie watched Nostrils get beat, and Charlie feels guilty. When they leave he takes Nostrils to the hospital. -
Entering the Ballarat Mile
Mr. Redmond finds out that Charlie is running for Squizzy so he enters him in the Ballarat Mile, and starts training him forgetting about boxing. -
Cheering Up Mum
Ever since the incident with Mr. Peacock, Ms. Feehan has been sad. Bringing in the gramophone Charlie starts dancing with his mother (Not very well) and that makes her laugh making Charlie happy also. -
Hospital visits with Alice
While Nostrils is in hospital Alice's and Charlie's relationship grows, also with Charlie's mother and Alice too. Lying their way into Nostrils room Charlie and Alice spend their day with him. -
No shoes
During Charlie's first heats he runs without shoes stunning the crowd, the other competitors and most definitely Mr. Redmond since he bought Charlie new shoes for the race -
Winning the Ballarat Mile
Charlie gets into the final race and decides to wear his shoes. Hanging back for most of the race Charlie pushes himself in the last leg enough to win the mile and the money. He is also the youngest person ever to win the Mile. -
Coming Home
Coming home Charlie tells his mother and everyone else about the win and they continue to celebrate.
