    Proposal of Statehood
    President John Tyler signs the proposal of statehood in March 1845. He was warned by the Mexicans themselves but he didn’t listen. He was determined to make Texas a part of the U.S. Although the proposal didn’t make it through Congress it did start a war between America and Mexico.
  • Battle of Monterrey

    Battle of Monterrey
    On September 21-24 in 1846 was the battle of Monterrey. The Army of occupation defeated the North. The Army of occupation was made up of volunteers and Texas Rangers.
  • The Neuces River Battle

    The Neuces River Battle
    In March, 1846 General Taylor lead Mexican troops past Nueces River which resulted in a battle because both the U.S and Mexico claimed the land.
  • Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna

    Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna
    In December 1846, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna returns to Mexico after being sent to Cuba He got mad at the government and declared himself to be the new President of Mexico.
  • Fort Texas Attack

    Fort Texas Attack
    On April 25, 1846, General Anastasio Torrejon lead his troops north of the Rio Grande river. There they attacked U.S troops when they least expected it. They attacked them at Fort Texas.

    On May 8th, 1846 the battle of Palo Alto happened. U.S troops won the battle of Palo Alto. It was the first Major battle of the Mexican-American War.
  • Battle of Resaca De La Palma

    Battle of Resaca De La Palma
    The day after Pablo Alto happened on May 9th, 1846 the battle of Resaca De La Palma. General Zachary Taylor of the united states went after the retreating forces of the Mexican Ejército del Norte after the battle of Pablo Alto. United States troops won and forced the Mexicans out of Texas.
  • The U.S Declares War

    The U.S Declares War
    On May 13th, 1846 President James Polk Informs the Congress about how “Mexico has invaded U.S. soil and that blood has been shed.” Then the Congress approves the declaration of war.
  • Battle of Rio San Gabriel

    Battle of Rio San Gabriel
    On January 8th, 1847 the battle of Rio San Gabriel happened. It took place at the ford of San Gabriel River. The U.S the Mexicans hideout which was at Key Ford. They then attacked, this became the Rio San Gabriel.
  • Bueno Visto Battle

    Bueno Visto Battle
    General Santa Anna and General Taylor face off against each other in the Buena Vista Battle. General Taylor's troops were outnumbered but they ended up winning.
