Catherine Dies
When Catherine died she had made ten foundations of Sisters of Mercy. 8 in Ireland and 2 in England. The sisters tried to respond to needs of those poor and neglected.They established schools and clinics, cared for the sick and dying in their homes, consoled the bereaved, provided refuge for homeless people, and befriended prisoners and their families. -

In 1846 Mercy Sisters came to Perth and started a foundation there. The leader of this first Mercy community in Australia was Ursula Frayne who was with Catherine when she died. -

Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia
The movement towards unity established at the 1977 assembly ultimately led to the creation of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia. -
Formation of Notre Dame College
St Colman’s and Sacred Heart formed Notre Dame in 1984. The name Notre Dame was named after Mary the Mother of Jesus. Notre means “our” in French and Dame means Lady in French.
