    In 1833 the government released Factory acts that limited the amount of hours children could work. These acts aimed to improve conditions for children working in factories were conditions were often terrible. Some of the basic acts were:
    No child workers under the age of nine
    Children are not to work at night
    Two hours of schooling for all children

    The Suez Canal built by the British and the French in the 1850's linked the Mediterranean Sea to the Red sea. This made it no longer necessary to go around the tip of africa to get fom Europe to Asia by sea. The Suez Canal was a massive step forward in making it easier to transport goods.
