James Edward Oglethorpe is Born
Born in London and was the tenth and last child of Theophilus and Eleanor Oglethorpe -
Admitted to Corpus Christi College at Oxford University
James Oglethorpe left in 1717 to join the military academy in France. He returned to Corpus Christi College in 1727 but never graduated. -
Fought in the Turkish War
James Oglethorpe became aide-de-camp to the prince and, during the Austro-Turkish War of 1716–1718, he served with distinction in the campaign against the Turks during 1716-1717 -
Elected to Parliament
Served as a Tory Member in the same seat previously occupied by his father and 2 older brothers. -
Death of close friend Robert Castell
While imprisoned for indebtness, Castell died causing Oglethorpe to take major interest in prison reform. -
Charter for Georgia Colony

Departed for New World
James Oglethorpe, along with 113 other selected colonists, set said for the New World with the Georgia Charter. Hope of Georgia was to be a refuge for debtors in England. -

Established First Masonic Lodge in Georgia
Now known as Soloman's Lodge No. 1, Oglethorpe established this masonic lodge as the first and longest standing in operation today in Georgia. -
