    this music video was a big step forwards for the music video business because it inspired a way of filming them that is still used today by most contemporary artists today
  • Hullabaloo

    An American alternative to the British show, Top Of The Pops. The series was originally a one-hour broadcast, airing from 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Its first season ran 18 new episodes from January through May 1965 then, from June through August 1965, it featured selected repeats, which aired from 10:00 - 11:00 p.m.
  • jackson 5- I want you back

    The 1970's saw the music video change with more emphasis on just the artist singing. This style lead to music videos to the "Cross-Cutting" stage where the song would portray a story that accompanied the lyrics and "cross-cuts" to the artist singing it. However the key to this innovation was the editing process, dealing with more professional techniques like "Chroma-Key".

    This was early example of a self-made music video, this started the development of the music video genre "Experimental". However this music video was seen as the first 'Long-form video production'.
  • MTV created

    the channel MTV (music television) was started and provided a 24 hour music watching service to millions. The first video that was shown on the channel was 'Video killed the radio start' by The Buggles. MTV launched with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," spoken by John Lack and played over footage of the first Space Shuttle launch countdown of Columbia (which took place earlier that year) and of the launch of Apollo 11).
  • Thriller- Michael Jackson

    This video was the pioneer of the 'Storyline' video which has a plot, almost like a 'mini' movie. It contains sophisticated visuals and it took the music industry to another level. Now music videos were really being seen as promotion and made into high-budget productions.

    the website youtube that shows videos for free online was launched by 'alphabet inc'. Started the reduction in cds purchases and turned into the main way for people across the world to watch music videos

    Gangnam Style by korean popstar PSY became the first video in the history of youtube to reach 1 billion views
