It was also used by the British Royal Navy, and Royal Flying Corps till the end of WWII. It offered a 7-round detachable box magazine. With a muzzle velocity of 380ft/lb,it proved to be reliable and robust in battle. It was beleived to be the most successful small arm. -

InfoWhen the United States of America entered World War I the standard military sidearm at that time was the Colt Model 1911 semi-automatic pistol, which fired the 45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) cartridge. Supplies of the M1911 were low, so even as M1911 production was being ramped up, contracts were issued to both Colt and Smith & Wesson to produce double action revolvers chambered for the same cartridge used by the M1911. Colt's answer to this was a new version of their New Service Model revolver. -

Forgotten WeoponsIt is fed from a Carcano clip that falls out the bottom when it’s empty; the magazine follower closely resembles that of the M91. The operating system is a combination of delayed and retarded blowback. The massive cylindrical bolt is divided in two segments of roughly equal size, front and rear. The rear segment rotates when the bolt is opened via a spiral cam slot cut into it on the right side. The front bolt segment does not turn. -
1927 Colt 1911A1
Additional infolt manufactured 10,000 1911A1s for the Argentinean Army. This contract is unique in that it had its own serial number range starting at serial of: 1 to 10,000, and the pistols were marked in accordance with Argentine requirements. The only normal Colts markings are the standard left hand slide legend. These guns have the serial numbers in three places, the barrel, the slide and on the receiver frame under the main spring housing. -

Modern FirearmsThe Sauer 38h was made between 1939 to 1945. They was made for the Military, Police and commercial sales. At first there was no safety on them but the German police wanted a safety so they put one on. Around 1945 they drop the safety to save production time and cost. They did made some in .22 lr and .380 acp before the war but they are very rare and they are worth a fortune now. My 38h was made in 1943 for the German police. It has the eagle over C on the left side trigger guard. -
