    The Persian Wars

    The Persian Wars consisted of 3 battles. The Battle of Marathon, the Battle of Thermopylae, and the Battle of Salamis.The Persian Empire wanted their revenge when the Athenians helped one of their colonies rebel against the Persian rule. The first war was won by the Greeks in Marathon. The second war the Greeks united to stop Xerxes from taking Athens and the Spartans lost. The third battle was a sea battle in which the Greeks won. In the end The Greeks were released from the Persian threat.

    The Golden Age

    The Golden Age was an important age because that was when Athens became very rich and powerful. The thriving of Athens' economy led to it's Golden Age which led to theater, sculpture,and philosophy. They became the leader of the Delian League after the Persian Wars with Pericles as their leader. Pericles created the strongest navy and increased democracy. The Golden age took place between the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars.

    The Peloponnesian Wars

    The Peloponnesian Wars were caused by Athens becoming too powerful as the ruler of the Delian League. Sparta created the Peloponnesian League to counter the Delian League. Pericles was the leader of Athens during the war. however he passes away, along with 1/3 of the population, when Athens undergoes a plague during the 2nd year of hiding behind the city walls as protection from Sparta. Sparta wins the war but both city-states are weakened and Phillip the 2nd of Macedonia conquers Greece.
  • Period: 336 BCE to 323 BCE

    Alexander the Great being leader

    Phillip the 2nd, Alexander's father, conquered Greece after the Peloponnesian Wars. However he died on his daughter's wedding day which left his son, Alexander the Great, to rule. Alexander started ruling at the age of 20. He was well educated and well trained as a military officer. He went on military ventures with his father and was tutored by Aristotle. Alexander conquered Greece and the Persian Empire however turned back when finding India. He then died at the age of 33 from malaria.
