    The Storming of the Bastille
    The Bastille was a prison that was a symbol of the monarchy's dictatorial rule. An angry mob stormed it to make a statement and take the right of ammunition stored inside from their possession. This event is what began the French Revolution.
  • The Jacobin Club is Formed

    The Jacobin Club is Formed
    The Jacobins were a political club that attended the assemblies of all the groups. They were the most radical group and were the leaders of the revolution to say the least. Eventually, they split but not before they did some damage to the monarchy.
  • The King Signs the New Constitution

    The King Signs the New Constitution
    After trying to flee with his family, King Louis XVI is captured and brought back to France. The revolutioners sit him down to show him their new constitution in hopes he'll sign it. The king grants them what they wish and later the Legislative Assembly is formed.
  • The September Massacres

    The September Massacres
    A series of killings of political prisoners where over 1200 men died. This was used as an awakening to the horrors of the revolution and what is was doing. The prisoners were killed in fear of a retaliation within the prisons.
  • The National Convention is Established

    The National Convention is Established
    The National Convention is an assembly that ruled over France after the monarchy ended. It consisted of everything from businessmen to tradesmen to etc. They had the power to change the government style from monarchy to republic.
  • King Louis XVI is Executed

    King Louis XVI is Executed
    The King is executed by the guillotine, which was invented during the revolution by revolutionists. This event is what causes a disagreement between revolutionists and royalists and spurred their drift apart. A civil war breaks out only a couple months later.
  • The Reign of Terror Begins

    The Reign of Terror Begins
    When Robespierre, the leader of the Committee of Public Safety, came into power, he declared that terror will be washed over the city. Anyone who is even suspected to oppose a revolutionist was to be immediately arrested and possibly executed. This reign is when Queen Marie Antoinette was executed, also by the Guillotine.

    The Reign of Terror Ends
    The time of murderous revolutionists ended when Robespierre, the leader, was overthrown. The very next day after his take down, he was executed by the guillotine, which is ironically what he used to execute other royalists. The Reign of Terror was officially over.

    The Directory is Formed
    The Directory is a government organization that began control of the government of France. It consisted of a bicameral legislature which was divided into two different councils. It continued for a few years until Napoleon Bonaparte's dictatorship ended it.
  • The French Revolution Ends

    The French Revolution Ends
    Once Napoleon Bonaparte overthrows the Directory, the French Revolution comes to an official end. Napoleon becomes the official leader/dictator of France by taking action. He also established the French Consulate as he did this.
