  • Thomas Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson
    Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States. Aaron Burr tied with Thomas Jefferson in electoral votes but was made the Vice President.
  • James Madison

    James Madison
    James Madison directed the Philadelphia convention towards forming a new constitution. He was one of the three contributors to the famous federalist paper. While James Madison was president he also drafted the United States Bill of Rights.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    During the War of 1812 New Englanders considered seceding from the United States. It's unclear who won the war of 1812, but it's very clear on who lost the war. Neither the British in Canada or the United States were prepared for the war.
  • James Monroe

    James Monroe
    James Monroe was the 4th President. He fought the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. He married Elizabeth Kortright they had two daughters together.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The compromise was done by Henry Clay in 1820, it was to maintain sectional balance and allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a slave state while main entered free. The 30 60 line was created to keep free soil in the west. This Missouri Compromise split the Democratic- Republican party which ended their twenty year control of national politics.

    Andrew Jackson was an American soldier who served as the 7th president. Before Jackson was the president he gained fame as a general in the United States Army and served in both houses of congress. While he was president he wanted to advance the right of "The Common Man"against a "Corrupt Aristocracy".

    In 1836 Texas declared their independence from the Mexican government.Texas wanted to annexed but the U.S. government declined for the fear that it might upset the Mexican government. They also refused for the fear that annexation would upset the balance of slavery in the U.S.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    Between 1835 and 1838 thousands of Cherokees and other Indians were forcefully marched to Oklahoma territory under the supervision of the U.S. army. Thousands died from sickness and starvation along the way. This act against the Indians contradicted the views that Jacksonites had of themselves in that they complied with the protection of individual rights.

    James K. Polk
    While James K. Polk was president the United States had a war against Mexico. He did a treaty with New Granada which resolved the problem of right-of-way for the U.S. citizens across the Isthmus of Panama. He also started the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    Concessions were made in both the North and the South following the Mexican American War. It created the Fugitive Slave Law and allowed popular sovereignty in Utah and New Mexico territory, appealing to the South. It was an attempt to keep the country unified.
