    The Invention of the Printing Press

    The Printing Press was a machine developed by Johannes Gutenberg in Germany which produced affordable books which increased the rate of literacy and reading. The prices of books decreased and it encouraged more people in the world to read. This was a pivotal moment in media history.
  • The Discovery of the Wavelengths/Radio Waves

    The discovery of radio waves was under James Clerk Maxwell from the UK who found a way to have wave lengths altered for communication. The radio has changed how we communicate with one another, and how we access entertainment.
  • Vinyl Disc Player

    The Vinyl Disc Player was created by Emile Berliner in the United States who allowed people to listen to music without the need to attend concerts and musical performances. This was evolutionary all around the world and gave people the opportunity to relax at home listening to music at their place of comfort.
  • Television

    The television was created by John Logie Baird in the United Kingdom. This provided a new platform for media as this was the introduction of Motion Picture media. This resulted in motion picture films, tv shows, news broadcasts and even evolved to video games.
  • Video Camera

    The video camera was also an invention from John Largie Baird as this would record things which would play on the television. The video camera is now one of the staples of media as it is used widely across all forms of media. Movies, tv shows, motion capture technology and News Casts.
  • First Computer

    The first ever Computer was created by Konrad Zuse from Germany who used the computer to read electrical binary. The next step of computers was a machine called Christopher created by Alan Turing which was used to break Germany's encrypted machine Enigma. It has now evolved immensely into pieces of technology who allowed people to edit media, create computer graphics and effects and record music. There are many companies who are a part of this i.e Microsoft, Apple Computer etc.
  • VHS Player

    The Sony company engineers developed this invention which again shaped our media. The VHS player changed the movie industry as suddenly movies were no longer things that could only be seen at a cinema. Movies could now be purchased, and watched over and over again within the comfort of ones own home. This was before unheard of, and it goes without saying it changed the movie world, as it allowed many more people to be able to enjoy the medium.
  • The Internet

    The invention of the internet was one of the most important events ever in this world. Tim Berners-Lee developed HTML and WWW which were huge contributions to how we navigate the internet today. The World Wide Web is a platform of a series of sites and pages that are connected with links. The Internet has now become one of the most important media platforms in the 21st century.
