    Napoleon wanted to destroy the British fleet in the Mediterranean thinking it would hinder their trades with places like India and other parts of Asia. But Napoleon is defeated by the British Navy under Admiral Horatio Nelson, this battle is called "The Battle of the Nile." Napoleon abandons his troops in Egypt and tells his people he had won the battle.

    Banque de France means "the bank of France." Napoleon changes the whole French economy after it's recent economic crisis. This new institution was charged with issuing notes payable to bearer on sight, in return for discounting of trade bills.

    The church and Napoleon weren't getting along, so he decides to issue the Concordat of 1801. He wanted to use the church to prop up his own regime. The Concordat stated many different things.

    Napoleon was crowned in the presence of Pope Pius VII, his supporters, doubters and the public. After the consecration, the anointing of a monarch with holy oil, Napoleon took his crown from the Pope and placed it upon his own head.

    The Continental Systems goal was to isolate Britain and promote Napoleon's mastery over Europe.The Continental System also made various decrees such as the Berlin Decrees and Milan Decree. It proved largely ineffective and eventually led to Napoleon's fall.

    France wanted Spain's support to invade Portugal. But Spain refused, which caused Napoleon to invade Spain as well. Napoleon gets the Spanish king and prince imprisoned in France, and proclaims his brother Joseph the new king. After 5 long years of savage fighting, French troops were finally pushed back across the Pyrennes Mountains out of spain.

    In July, 1812, Napoleon led his Grand Armee of 422,000 men eastward across central Europe and into Russia. Russians retreated to Moscow to avoid confrontation with Napoleon, but when the Grand Armee got to Moscow it was on fire. Soon after the Russian Army had defeated the French at Borodino. The French had retreated with 100,000 men, but only 10,000 survived.

    Nations joined together to defeat Napoleon, and they were successful. Napoleon was defeated at Leipzig.

    Napoleon is ultimately defeated in Waterloo by the Duke of Wellington and Prussian General Blucher. Napoleon is then sent to his final exile on St. Helena.
