The price of the Model T started off at 850 dollars, which is extremely cheap compared to the automobile these days. Henry Ford also used an assembly line to speed up the production of the Model T, which greatly benefited him. In 1920, more than 400,000 Model T's were sold in the 1920s.

  • The Need For Gas And Oil

The Need For Gas And Oil
With all of these cars to fuel up and oil needed for maintenance, we needed to start drilling. Petroleum, the fuel needed for our cars is a liquid that is drilled from the ground. Without gas, the cars would have nothing to run on. The pressure was really there when cars starting to sell quicker, and the demand for fuel got higher.

  • The Model T Engine

    The Model T Engine
The Ford Model T and its engine were the first to be mass-produced. The powerhouse of the Ford Model T was a flathead inline 4 cylinder engine with very simplistic parts compared to modern-day engines. It has no oil pump or water pump, and get s lubrication by splashing oil rather than pressurized oil from a pump. The Model T's engine out 20 horsepower. While it may seem a lot, a typical car today has upwards of over 150 horsepower.

  • War And The Automobile

    War And The Automobile
During WW1, the automobile was used as transportation of troops, Artillery, Nurses, and used as a weapon in war. The tank is the most common vehicle used during the war, but the automobile was still used for other purposes as listed above. The Fort FT-B was used during the Polish-Soviet War of 1920. It was in service for 11 years until newer car technology came out.
  • The Diesel Engine

    The Diesel Engine
Although the diesel engine was not a practical choice due to its recent invention, the diesel engine was used in cars in the late 20s and up to even today! The diesel engine runs off of compression, unlike a gas engine that uses a spark plug to ignite fuel. The diesel engine is much more fuel-efficient than the gasoline engine.
  • Rudolf Diesel

    Rudolf Diesel
Rudolf Diesel, a French-German inventor, created and built the first engine which is known today as the diesel internal combustion engine. Rudolf Diesel spent much of his time learning about how the internal combustion and how he could improve upon the design of them at the time. He created an engine that ran on compression. He found that diesel fuel when compressed combusts, and he implemented that idea into an engine. Rudolf Diesel died at age 55 unexpectedly from an unknown cause or event.
  • Automobile Racing

    Automobile Racing
At the start of the 1920s, Racecars were used as a sport. Even today, people modify and tune cars to perform faster than ever before. Racecars of the 1920s were not the prettiest, but they sure were fast and had a lot of flaws. These racecars were low to the ground for better handling and had a super aerodynamic frame so less drag was induced. The Duesenberg Model J clocked in at 119 MPH, which is extremely fast. The sport was extremely dangerous, and many injuries and fatal crashes occurred.
  • The Gasoline Engine

    The Gasoline Engine
The gasoline internal combustion engine is the most common engine of them all. It uses gasoline and a spark plug to ignite the fuel and keep you going. Without the invention of the gasoline engine, the world as we know it would be entirely different. Some gasoline engines of the 1920s were cooled by the means of air, while others used liquid with a high boiling point to keep it cooled down.
