    Theodore Roosevelt is born
    Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York in 1858. He grew up in a wealthy family. He was home schooled and then attended Harvard University. He married Alice Hathaway Lee and had a daughter named Alice. His wife died shortly after giving birth to his daughter and he was devastated. He took what he had of his inheritance and moved out west to start a farm that got wiped out from a blizzard.

    Yosemite under Federal Control
    On 1890 Yosemite is named a national park. It is now protected under federal control. What caused this was the damage the ecosystem took during the gold rush of 1849. Along with settlers and native Americans in conflict the US government saw that it was best if they made it an area set aside for the well being of nature.

    Named President when McKinley is assassinated
    McKinley was the 25th U.S. president. He had come to the temple of music to great people. Among those people was Leon Czolgosz who was plotting on murdering McKinley with a gun he had concealed. When he came up to the president he shot him twice. His condition got worse and he passed away September 14. Teddy Roosevelt succeeded the presidency.

    Energy from petroleum in the early 1900s made only 4.8% of the total energy production in the US. The Anthracite Coal Mine strike caused a crisis. The workers demanded change and for the first time in US history the president came to intervene. He sided with workers.

    Teddy Roosevelt pressed congress to change the Interstate Commerce Act because companies were taking advantage of the railroad industry. Shortly after the Elkin Act was passed which made rebates illegal. The railroad companies benefited from this law since now they were protected. This saved them a lot of money.

    Pelican Island, Florida named first national wildlife refuge
    President Roosevelt cared a lot of wildlife and nature. He signed a an executive order stating that Pelican Island was now a bird reservation. In the past many animals had almost died off because of the mass hunting that was taking place. This was the first time the federal government had made a reservation with the sole purpose of protecting animals.

    Teddy Roosevelt was running for the presidency in the 1904 elections against Alton B. Parker and Eugene Debs. Roosevelt won with 56.4% of the popular vote.

    The first federal regulations of food and drugs. After the publishing of the book ¨Jungle¨ people were horrified by the conditions they're food was being processed through.This act allowed meat packing companies and others to have their food checked and be packaged in a clean environment.

    Devils Tower
    Deemed a national monument by Teddy Roosevelt in 1906. Before it was even considered a national monument Devils tower was an important site for native Americans who lived in the area. Today hikers, tourist and rock climbers can visit Devils Tower in Wyoming. As long as they respect native Americans who still hold ceremonies there.

    Theodore Roosevelt decided to not run a 2nd term and appointed a friend of his for the presidential race. Shortly after he took a trip to Africa to get away from all the politics. He spent an entire year hunting animals.

    Runs for presidency, unsuccessfully for Bull-Moose Party
    Teddy Roosevelt was running for a third term as president. He was nominated the a progressive republican party also known as the Bull-Moose Party. While delivering a speech he was shot at by John Schrank. Schrank was detained and Roosevelt continued his speech. Unfortunately he had to take some time from his campaign to recover and he ended up losing against Woodrow Wilson.
