    Theodore Roosevelt is Born
    Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York and belonged to a wealthy family. He was homeschooled but attended Harvard for college. Not only did he become president, but he was also a statesman, naturalist, politician, and conservationist. He later married and had a baby. Only two days after his baby was born his wife and mother died.   • McKinley Assassinated, Roosevelt becomes President

    McKinley Assassinated, Roosevelt becomes President
    President William McKinley was assassinated at the Pan- American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. Leon Czolgosz was the man who shot him not only once but twice with a .32 caliber Iver Johnson revolver. McKinley did not die on the spot, he was sent to a hospital to stop the bleeding but the surgeon could not locate the bullet. He died a few days later with McKinley's wife by his side.

    Elkins Act Passed
    The Elkins Act, named for Senator Stephen B permitted the Interstate Commerce Commission which meant that the practice of rebates was coming to an end.     Pelican Island, Florida- named 1st national wildlife refuge

    Roosevelt won the election in 1904 and became the 26th president of the United States, also being the youngest to become president as he was forty-two years of age. Teddy pushed progressive reform and to create a strong foreign policy.     Yosemite under Federal Control
    in 1889 it was discovered that Yosemite's large meadows were not government regulated, and this was causing destruction to the park due to domestic sheep grazing Finally Congress decided to put aside 1500 miles of land that eventually would become Yosemite National Park. From then on the rest of the park became under federal jurisdiction.

    Passage of Pure Food and Drug Act
    The passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act was due to journalists exposing the highly unsanitary conditions in food factories such as the meat industry.     Devil's Tower in Wyoming

    The Devil's Tower was the first national monument built in the United States. It is a butte that is made up of igneous rock and it is located in Bear Lodge Ranger District of the Black Hills in Wyoming. Devil's Tower was proclaimed by President Theodore Roosevelt, shortly after he signed the Antiquities Act.     Roosevelt was an avid conservationist, so it is no surprise he left in the middle of his presidency to visit Africa. Teddy led the expedition on behalf of the Smithsonian Institution to collect specimens for the National History Museum that is now known as the National Museum of Natural History.

    Roosevelt runs for Presidency and loses due to Bull-Mouse Party
    Teddy Roosevelt was nominated for the presidency by the Progressive Party, also known as the Bull- Moose Party. The Bull-Moose party was a group of republicans who were unpleased with President William Taft. Roosevelt's platform was based on the saying, "Square-Deal." This meant that Teddy was pushing for a society based on fair business competition and increased welfare. Roosevelt lost and Wilson won.
