    Architectural Barriers Act
    This act is a standard that developed accessibility in all public places for people who needed extra assistance or people who have disabilities. Examples of this are sidewalks, elevators, and ramps that allow wheelchairs.
  • The Rehabilitation Act

    The Rehabilitation Act
    This act was put in place so that discrimination could not be made based off of ones disability. This helps students especially in college because this act makes it mandatory for students with disabilities to have accessible housing as well as academic adjustments.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    This act was put in place to insure that all schools receiving federal funds provide equal access to education as well as provide one free meal for children who have any physical or mental disabilities.
  • Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act

    Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act
    This act was put in place to insure that there are always physically accessible places for the elderly and people who are handicapped to vote on Election Day.This act states that if there is not an accessible place for those who are handicapped, there must be another day for them to vote that must be put in place.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act — The ADA

    Americans with Disabilities Act —  The ADA
    This act prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. This applies to any place that is open to the general public such as school, jobs, transportation, stores, etc. The goal of this is to insure that people with disabilities do not lack opportunity in comparison to people without disabilities.

    This act insures that students with special needs are receiving free education that is specific to their needs.

    No Child Left Behind is an act which focuses on student achievement gaps by providing all children with both a fair and equal chance to obtain free education.
  • Individualized Education Program Improvement ACT

    Individualized Education Program Improvement ACT
    This program under the United States law was put in place to insure students with special needs are on the correct routine and are making/reaching goals. IEP's are intended to be updated regularly. (There was no month or day for this act, only the year is provided)
  • Assistive Technology Act

    Assistive Technology Act
    This act was put in place to assist people with disabilities so that they can actively participate in daily activities, work, and education. The tools used can be considered any item or piece of equipment that can either help or improve ones way of living.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA)

    Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA)
    This act focuses a lot on schooling and the work place especially. In schools, a child with dissabilities but does not qualify for for IDEA may not qualify for ADAAA. This act advocates for helping students get the correct accommodations they need in school. In the work place this act helps with privacy. Any files regarding an individuals disability must be away from all other files but for the job itself, this act protects any discrimination regarding qualified people with disabilities.
