  • Child Find System

    Child Find System
    The first find system was created in 1874 where 3 cents were given for every child ages 4-21 who are labeled "deaf/blinds" and "idiots". Which later on in the system they added on "deaf/mute". This was the first system of assessments that were used to identify individuals with special needs.
  • First Special Education Class

    First Special Education Class
    In 1926 the first special education class was conducted in Jacksonville Florida at Hope Heaven. Hope Heaven was originally a hospital for children with tuberculosis. Later transformed into a system that treats individuals with special needs. Today Hope Heaven still stand for helping those with special needs.

    Timetoast The exceptional children's program was funded by the help of the minimum foundation program. The meeting was help in Tampa, Florida officially holding the program which will formulate the hold for all children with disabilities. Over the years it has changes through the hold of different governors with its most recent change in the hands of Governor DeSantis.

    Federal Education of All Handicapped
    Federal Education of All Handicapped Children Act enacted. The State of Florida as well as the United States enacted the law in 1975. The law made it a fact that the school systems are able to help and assist with the disability of the student in the best way possible for the student.
  • Exceptional Student Enrollment

    Exceptional Student Enrollment
    In 1988 the student enrollment in the State of Florida for children with a disability grew to 307,000 students. This raised the amount of teacher to 14,330 for the amount of students enrolling in schools. Teachers were very much an essential part of the growth process to students with disabilities.

    Center For Autism and Related Disabilities
    CARD was created in 1993 in the State of Florida. It was center created for concerned parents of students and individuals with disabilities. CARDS is funded by the State of Florida through funding that was created specifically for them.

    McKay Scholarship

    The John McKay scholarship was a scholarship created in 1999 and ended in July 1, 2022 when it was combined with another scholarship program. The program was created by a grandfather who started to see an increase in students with disabilities in the State of Florida. The McKay scholarship was created in honor of John McKays grandchild who also had a disability.

  • No Child Left Behind ACT

    No Child Left Behind ACT
    The No Child Left Behind Act was signed by President George W Bush on January 8, 2002. This set the state standard high for all schools that no student should be left without proper education as they continue on in their learning. This system applied testing to the mix and informing that those with disabilities will also apply to the development of students in the school system.
  • Florida Alternative Assessment

    Florida Alternative Assessment
    Florida's Alternative Assessment testing was created and administered for those individuals with disabilities that are not on the standard track. The alternative assessment is administered with accommodations in place for the individuals with disabilities who need this guidance. FAA is an important part of incorporating the student learned knowledge into the state standard assessment testing.

    Individuals with Disabilities Act Revision
    IDEA was revised in December 2004, this law however was passed in 1975. This is the law giving the rights to all individuals with disabilities in the United States. However the State of Florida Labeled it the Exceptional Student Education Act.
