Frank Nasworthy invents urethane skateboard wheels. Until this point, skaters used clay, or even metal wheels. These wheels spark new interest in skateboarding. -

During the 80's, skateboarding began to influence clothing styles, music and culture. -

First SKATE park!
The first public skate park in NYC opened in the mid 90’s. -

Mainstream.
Since 2000 skateboarding has become more mainstream. More money has been put into skateboarding, there are more skate parks, better skateboards, and more skateboarding companies support the skaters. Mad props for that. Today you can actually attend the Uptown Skate School in NYC, and get one on one personal skateboarding lessons – how mainstream is that?! There are even talks about skateboarding becoming an Olympic sport.
