    Christopher Columbus Discovers New World
    Christopher Columbus discovered the New World on August 13, 1942. This event began the struggle of power between nations of Europe. Many (mostly: France, Spanish, Portugal, and England) fought to get people to the New World in order to claim land. This event helped to establish the country that we know as America.
  • Defeat of Spanish Armada

    Defeat of Spanish Armada
    On August 8, 1588, the English finally defeated the fleet of 130 ships known as the Spanish Armada. The Spanish Armada had planned on invading England and attacking their queen(Queen Elizabeth the I). The Spanish had hoped that by overthrowing the Queen they could not only get rid of the Protestantism present in England, but also end the English interference in the Spanish Netherlands.
  • Jamestown, Virginia Established

    Jamestown, Virginia Established
    May 14, 1607 was the day that the first permanent English settlement, known as Jamestown, Virginia, was established. Jamestown was a settlement of the Virginia Colony and served as the head colony. Jamestown followed England's several failed attempts of establishing a colony(including Roanoke). Jamestown was abandoned in 1699 after the colony's capital was moved to Williamsburg.

    Battle of Blenheim was part of the War of Spanish Succession and took place in Bavaria. The English defeated France with the help from the Dutch. Leading the English to victory was John Churchill.

    The Industrial Revolution began taking place in the year 1760. This revolution was the process of leaving old manufacturing processes behind in order to embrace the new ones. The Industrial Revolution led to machine production taking over hand production, the improving of water power, and the increased use of steam power in machinery. Textile was the main industry to use machinery in the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution kept England ahead of the curve.

    Stockton and Darlington Railway
    In England, Stockton and Darlington Railway opened on September 25, 1825. Stockton and Darlington Railway was the first public transportation system to use steam locomotives. By doing this, Stockton and Darlington Railway put England ahead of the game in terms of industrial success and economic success.

    London hosts the first World's Fair in 1851 located inside the Crystal Palace. This fair brought in thousands of people to view the first exhibition of international manufactured goods. The fair was the idea of Prince Albert, husband to Queen Victoria. This fair influenced trade, art, education, and tourism. This fair held in London set up a tradition and series of world fairs that still continues to present day.
