    ARCHDUKE ASSASSINATION
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June the 28th 1914 in Sarajevo. This death sparked WW1.

    DARDENELLES/GALLIPOLI
    The British successfully landed a number of marines, bar the loss of seven ships to mines. The mission was a failure due the success not being followed up.

    The germans began to fire shells filled with chorine fas towards the allies lines. This was the first day that very large amounts of gas were used in battle.
  • LUSITANIA SUNK

    LUSITANIA SUNK
    WHAT HAPPENED?
    There were outraged protests from the United States at the German U-boat campaign. This was due to the fact the Lusitania sunk held many American and British passengers, but on May 7th it was torpedoed by a German U-boat and sunk. The boat held 1,959 and out of those number of people on board 1,198 of them died.WHO WAS INVOLVED?The Germans, the British and Americans. WHY WAS IT SIGNIFICANT? This enraged Americans and hastend the US entrance in to WW1.

    WHAT HAPPENED?
    The first tanks ever used in battle were in the British, at Delville Wood. They were extremely useful when it came to breaking through barbed wire and clearing paths for the infantry, they are still primitive and don’t work to the decisive weapon.
    WHO WAS INVOLVED?
    The British.
    WHY WAS IY SIGNIFICANT?
    It was significant because it effected the way the British Army fought during the first world war. By having tanks it enabled them to get through areas quicker.

    n WW1 the first aeroplane air raid took place on London by the Germans. The germans thought by making roads on London, the South East, the British Air Force would be forced to protect their home front, rather then attacking the German Air Force.

    LLOYD GEORGE PRIME MINISTER
    Lloyd George became the Prime Minister of the war time coalition. Unlike that of his Predecessor, the war cabinet met every day. There was a disagreement among member of the Cabinet. Most of the disagreement was between Llyod George and Sir Douglas Haig. Lloyd George became suspicious of Haig’s demands for more men and freedom of action in the field.

    TREATY OF BREST-LITOVSK
    Due to the successful revolution by the Bolsheviks the Russians decided to sign an Armistice with Germany at Brest-Litovsk. The treaty terms were quite harsh due to the fact Russia had to surrender Poland, the Ukraine and other regions. The Russians also had to stop all of the Socialist propaganda directed towards Germany, as well as paying 300 million roubles for the repatriation of Russian prisoners.

    WHAT HAPPENED? Kaiser Wilhelm and his retinue quietly slip over the border into the Netherlands where he lived out the remainder of his life in relative peace and wrote a self-promoting memoir defending his actions in the war. This ending all German hope for a victory. WHO WAS INVOLVED?Gemrmany and Kaiser Wilhelm’s armies he was leading. WHY WAS IT SIGNIFICANT?

    The Armistice was signed at 11am in Redonthes, France. This brought the war to an end.
