    Agricultural Society

    In the agricultural times sports were not as popular as what they are now. The people in these times were categorised into three groups, these were the working class, the middle class and then the upper class, although they didn't compete in sports, they completed activities which were very similar.

    In this year the British Parliament passed the Enclosure Acts, which meant that both public and private lands would have to be fenced off from each other, which lead to horse riders jumping the fences to get to their destination

    Industrial Revolution

    The industrial Revolution didn't effect show jumping, however it did effect the level of intensity and the number of agricultural workers that were needed to ensure that the crops grew
  • Hanoverian period

    In this year show jumping was first mentioned in a French cavalry manual which was a guidance for instructors, an instruction on co-ordination of the aids, gymnastics and position of the rider, and a system for breaking and training horses.

    In this year the first Clonmel show was held by the Royal Dublin Society, this show had 180 cattle, 85 horses and an amount of pigs and poultry. The jumps at this show included both high and wide leaps
