Marriage
My mom seperated and divorced my dad before I was two years old. She started dating my step dad when I was 3 and by the time that I was 5 I was a flowergirl in their wedding. -
Struggles
I was struggling with phoemic awareness/phonics and reading. My teacher had suggested holding me back but instead my mom (who was going to school for education) worked with me instead.This reinforced the idea that my mom was going to be there for me. I knew then that I would always be able to turn to her for help. -
Matthew
My younger brother was born. I was so excited for a younger sibling because I had been the youngest for seven years. Before he was born I had been hoping for a little sister since I did not have one. I resented the fact that he was a boy and because of this it took me a few months to warm up to him. Now I don't know what I would do if something were to happen to him. -
Mallory
Mallory was born only 13 short months after Matthew. I was so excited for her birth because then I would have a little sister too. She has changed my life. I wanted to be her role model even at a young age and I have tried my best to live up to that. I also have always wanted her to feel comfortable coming to me with any issues . I had lived away from her now for a month but miss her everyday . -
Y2K
I remember the biggest concern of 1999 ending was how technology was going to react/the big virus that was supposed to hit. Instead of being concerned I sat up until midnight playing the card game "war" at the dinning room table with my mom. This showed me that I should never stress too much because my mom would always be there to help calm me down. -
Moved
We moved from Brunswick, ME to Mesa,AZ for my stepdad to fulfill his dream of being a chef and training Le Cordon Bleu in Scottsdale. This introducted me to entirely new cultures and uprooted me from the familiarity with Brunswick. -
9/11
I remember dropping what we were doing in Language Arts and turning our attention to the news and watching and re-watching the footage of the Twin Towers being crashed into. This was only after a month and 10 days of being in the state of Arizona. Flying in a plane has forever changed since 9/11 occured. -
Moved
My family and I moved from Mesa, Arizona to Daphne, Alabama. Again, moving completely uprooted me from what I was familiar with but it brought me closer to my family. -
Moved
We moved from Daphne, Alabama back to Brunswick, ME because my parents had the oppurtunity to open their own resturaunt. This changed my life because I had to help raise my younger siblings because my mom and stepdad were always at the restuarant. -
Garrett
This was the date that Garrett Brosnan asked me to be his girlfriend. I agreed. We didn't expect to be a long time relationship, but we dated for 4.5 years and he was with me through alot. He truly became my best friend. I would turn to him with anything. -
Graduation
I graduated from Brunswick High School and had to wait a few months before I started college at University of North Texas. It was an accomplishment to have attended the same school and to have graduated from that same school. -
University of North Texas
I was accepted into University of North Texas. This was another cultural and environmental change for me. I was used to Alabama, but the weather in Texas was just a little different. -
Arizona State University
During my first year in college at UNT my family moved from Maine back to Arizona. I remembered how much I loved it when we lived in Mesa so I decided to apply to ASU. Upon admisson I decided to move out here. It was nice to be near my family again and in a climate that was less humid than the south. -
Ataxia
I had a flair up of Ataxia which attacks my cerebellum. I had to regain my fine motor skills, speech, and ability to walk in a straight line. Due to the intravenous treatment that I had to get to cure some of the syptoms of ataxia I was forced to take a semester off of college so I could stay under the watch of my neuroligist. -
ITeachAZ
I was accepted into the ITeachAz program after many semesters of working to get into it. The semester that I was forced to take off affected when I was accepted into the program. It was a relief when I was accepted and could start the work that would prepare me more for teaching. -
Broken
After 4.5 years of dating and being committed to one another even though we were in different states Garrett and I broke up. He was with me through so many rough times and helped me to overcome so many challenges. It was hard to make the decision to let him go but I knew it was what had to be done at the time.
