    Russia and Japan competed for control of Korea and Manchuria. They both signed agreements over the two territories. In the end Russia broke the agreements, and Japan retaliated.

    Rapid industrialization was happening in Russia and the people got overwhelmed. When new factories came along problems occurred with them. People who worked in the factories had bad working conditions, low wages, and child labor.

    200,000 families and workers approached the Czar Winter Palace. They wanted better working conditions and get paid more. Soldiers were told to fire at the crowd, 1,000 were injured, several hundred killed. After this the people got a little more freedom.

    1914, Russia entered the war. Russia was unprepared to deal with the cost of war and how to handle the military. Weak Generals, untrained troops, and no instructions was no match for Germans army.

    A local protest turned into a general uprising. So, Czar had to abdicate the throne. After his rein his family collapsed.

    The Germans believed that Lenin and Bolshevik supporters would stir up unrest and hurt the Russian war effort against Germany. Although Lenin was banished from Russia the Germans arranged for him to come back. He was smuggled in through a railway boxcar on April, 1917.

    Within days after the Bolshevik take over Lenin took all the farm land and gave it to the poor/peasants. The factory workers had become in more control of the factory. The Bolshevik government (Russia) signed a treaty with German and now Russia is out of the war. In this treaty Russia gave Germany and it's allies plenty of territory.
