  • Nicholas II becomes Czar of Russia

    The previous Czar of Russia dies of an illness. His son, Nicholas II becomes the next Czar.
  • Centuries of autocratic rule by the Czars

    Russia lost in Manchuria, and it sparked unrest at home and led to a revolt in the midst of the war.
  • Bloody Sunday

    In January of 1905, about 20,000 workers and their families showed up at the czars winter palace in St. Petersburg. Several hundred peple were killed and thousands injured.
  • Russia enters World War One

    Nicholas II entered Russia into WWI in 1914. At the time, Russia was not prepared militaristically for a world war.
  • Provisional government is established

    Leaders of the Duma establish a temporary government. Alexander Kerensky was the leader.
  • Dissatisfied workers organized strike

    In March of 1917, neary 20,000 workers stormed the streets of Petrograd in Russia. They were shouting to end the war and down with autocracy.
  • March Revolution

    The march revolution was when women in petrograd led a stike about working.
  • Czar Nicholas abdocated the throne

    The local protest created an uprising called the March Revolution. This uprising forced Nicholas to step down.
  • Lenin Returns to Russia

    Lenin returns from exile and arrives in Russia.
  • Bolshevik Revolution topples provisional government

    In November of 1917, armed factory workers stormed the winter palace in Petrograd. They called themselves the bolshevik and they took over the government.
  • Civil War between white and red armies

    The Red army was the bolsheviks. The white army consisted of many groups such as the czar,and other political groups that disapproved of Lenins style of socialism
  • Revolutionary movements begin and compete for power

  • Lenin establishes New economic policy

    Lenin created a small scale version of capitalism called the New economic policy
  • Bolsheviks change name to communist party

    They changed the name becuase it was in Karl Marx's writing.
  • Russia is organized into self governing republics

    The bolsheviks saw nationalsim as a threat, so they organized Russia into self governing republics.
  • Lenin suffers sroke

    After Lenin suffered his stroke, he retired from politics.
  • Stalin becomes dictator

    Stalin was working his way up that began in 1922. By 1928 he was in full control of the communist party.
