    Whigs v. Democrats
    In the 1800's instead of the republicans v. democratics, they were called the whigs v. democratics. They battled over all types of political debates, and they became some of the most known parties. Still today they are the most known parties, even though they are reffered to as the Republicans vs. the Democrats.
  • First Democratic President

    Andrew Jackson was elected the first democartic president, this started the democratic party officially. This was a big win for the democrats. He was a general in the war of 1812. He was a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans.

    The democrats wanted every state to have the right to reconize and prohibit slavery. This cuased the northern america to nominate a different president candidate than southern america, overall a republican won the election.
  • James A. Garfield, Republican

    James A. Garfield, Republican
    He was the president during the reconstruction periond. He successful led battles against the enmies. An attorney shot the president. Garfield layed in the white house for weeks. They tried to get the bullet but fialed and he passed away. He was in office from 1880-1881.
  • 19th amendment

    19th amendment
    Our democratic leader granted the woman the right to vote and ended woman suffrage. Tennesee became the 36 state to ratify woman suffrage. It became the nation 19th amendment.

    The social security act provides assitance to people that are retired, people that are unemployed, widows, and orphans.Franklin Deleno Roosevelt was the first president to give federal assitance to the elderly. Republican legislators largely oppesed this act.
  • Civil RIghts Act

    Civil RIghts Act
    This allowed large groups of black men and women and it allowed racial segregation. It segregated places like schools, workplaces, and public facilities.This was signed by Lynden B. Johnson. It made it so that you could judge people of other colors legaly.

    An online community was created just for democrats. Newsletters were sent to eachother, it was an easier way of communicating information. Some of the things on the websites uniting the democrats are things like issuesthey feel should be addressed, and leaders they feel are not doing there job or are doing their job. Republicans are also online though. With the same type of issues. Online has become a better way of spreading there ideas.

    In the presedential election in the year 2000 between Albert Gore and George W. Bush resulted in a indeterminate. After much investigation the electoral votes of florida were awarded to Bush in a U.S. Sepreme Court decision split straight down the ideological lines. The republicans enjoyed complete control of congress for a little bit afte rthe election. The defection of Senator James Jefford of Vermont to independant allowed the democrats to organize the Senate , the goverment was divided.
  • Election of 2012

    Election of 2012
    The current election is between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Barack obama was president already, now it is just a battle mostly between these two canidadtes. A lot of votes are towards Obama, becuase a lot of people oppose Romney. The elction is taking place November 6, 2012.
