    The French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years War) started due to nations wanting control over land in North America. The Natives allied themselves with the French to stop Britain from controlling certain parts of North America.

    The Proclamation of 1763 was issued so that colonists couldn’t settle land past the Appalachian Mountains.

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was passed for more authority in the colonies and Britain was in debt from the Seven Years War so they needed a profit. The stamps were on paper goods in the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Colonists were shouting insults and hurling rocks and the like at the Redcoats. The soldiers were aggravated and a few of them fired and killed five people.

    Thomas Hutchinson allowed three ships to enter the Boston Harbor and the Bostonians were mad about the Tea Act so they took action and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.

    The Tea Act was intended to prop up the East India Company by allowing the company to sell tea directly to colonists at a bargain price and it would possibly undercut business of local merchants.

    Britain was sick of the colonists rebelling so they enforced the Intolerable Acts to force more control. The colonists hated these acts because they were unfair.

    A group of men wrote the Declaration of Independence, including Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, they wrote it to tell Britain that they were going to fight for their freedom and independence.
