    In 500 B.C. Darius creates the currency called the golden Daric, weights and measures were by the royal cubit and the kings measure. These were used by merchants and traders. Also this is one of the first attempts a currency and measuring system.

    Babylon flourishes under King Nebuchadnezzar

    Babylon rises again under its new king in 605 B.C. to 538 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar started by restoring monuments and improving canals. Nebuchadnezzar Built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, which is one of the sevenwonders of the world. He also built a wall surrounding the capital city which had an elaborate entry called the Ishtar gate. Nebuchadnezzar was a king that wanted his cities empire to be great and it was.

    In 1020 B.C. the kingdom of Israel is established by the israelites uniting them under one king in fear of foreign enemies conquering them as separate tribes. The capital is Jerusalem and David is their king.

    The first printing press invented was in between the years 1041 A.D. and 1048 A.D. by Bi Sheng in China and created a new world of opportunities allowing for easy multiple copies of books. In the west Johannes Gutenburg of Mainz, Germany is credited for the invention of the printing press he made in1450.

    About 1400 B.C. the Hittites develop iron working at this time due to warfare. This would help relvolutionize a new age in warfare one with stronger swords, shields, armor, and chariots. This also would change domestic life as more and more products are made from steel.

    In 539 B.C. Cyrus the great captures Babylon and creates the Achaemenid empire that last for two more centuries. When Alexander the Great took overtook the empire.

    The first civilization is thought to have arisen in Mesopotamia, between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The first great civilization was called Sumeria. Sadly, it was also the first great civilization to be conquered.The conquerors were the Akkadians, who lived to the north. They were not as technologically advanced as the Sumerians, but they had better weapons and an army that was trained. The leader was Sargon who conquered Sumeria and his reign was from 2334 B.C. to 2279 B.C.

    The very first pyramid in Egypt was built for King Zoser (Djoser) around 2650 B.C. The pyramids were built in Egypt as tombs for their pharoahs that have certain objects buried with the pharaohs for the afterlife following their polytheistic religion.

    In the Fertile Crescent of Mesopotamia was where the most fertile land was, and early people created small farming villages. In about 3500 B.C. the first cities started to appear in Mesopotamia a group of people called the Sumerians. The cities came about from those small farming villages that grew and merged together and created not only cities but the first civilization.
  • Regular use of bronze in Egypt and Mesopotamia

    The Bronze Age was 4,000 B.C. to 1,200 B.C. During this period everything from weapons to agricultural tools to hairpins was made with bronze (a copper-tin alloy). Weapons and tools made from bronze replaced crude implements of stone, wood, bone, and copper. Bronze knives are considerable sharper than copper ones. The Egytians and Mesopotamians were one the main users of bronze it was what why they were the top civilizations at the time.

    About 8000 B.C. the New Stone Age begins and that is where we start seeing the domestication of plants and animals. The use of tools and the need for water and good soil. Poltheistic religions start to show and social structures with economies using barter and trade.
  • Old Stone Age begins

    The Old Stone Age begins about 2.5 million years ago and starts as humans in small groups from our ancestors like Homo Habilus, Homo Erectus. Theses groups get larger and as humans evolve over millions of years we leave our hunter gathering ways about 6,000 B.C.
