  • Molasses Act

    Molasses Act
    British Government imposed a tax on Molasses to everyone who wasn't a British Colony.
    The American Colonies response included bribery, smuggling, finding other creative ways around the law
  • Revenue Act

    Revenue Act
    Increased all taxes and started the first federal income tax. It was first passed to fund the American Civil War and recoup from the French and Indian War. The Colonists were very angry and found was around taxes.
  • Suger Act

    Suger Act
    This was a revenue raising act that required a tax on sugar and molasses. This also made items containing them more expensive. The colonists were still very angry about the taxes and protested.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This new law required all American colonists to pay for a new tax on every piece of printed paper. Many things were taxed like, ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and playing cards. The Colonists protested and passed resolutions calling for the repeal of the Stamp Act.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    This Act created duties and taxes on imported glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The Colonists created the phrase "No Taxation, without Representation." Several boycotts followed and eventually the Boston Tea Party.
