Revenue Acts

  • Sugar Act

    One of the first taxes was the sugar act in 1764. This placed a tax on all sugar and molasses. The colonist boycotted and wrote letters to the parliament. The British gave up and got tired of all the letters and repealed the act.
  • Stamp Act

    In 1765 the British put a tax on all legal documents. If it wasn't on this paper it wasn't official. It was also on playing cards. The colonist were very angry and boycotted British goods and harassed tax collectors. The British Parliament repealed the act the following year.
  • Quartering Act

    In 1765 ,the same year as the stamp act, the British made a law that the colonist had to house and feed the British Soldiers in America.The colonists weren't very happy and didn't obey the law. The British repealed the act.
  • Declaratory Act

    1766 the Declaratory act was placed. This gave British the right to tax the colonies the same as England's residents. The colonist got mad and started the "no taxation without representation" The British made it so that the colonies couldn't meet in New York to have meetings.
  • Townshend Act

    This act was placed on the colonist and put a tax on basically all imported goods in 1767. The colonist reacted negatively and boycotted the goods and eventually threw some of the tea in the harbor. And that is called the Boston Tea Party. The British acted and got rid of most of the taxes besides the one on tea.
