Raphael's timeline

  • Raphael's first birthday (Trust vs Mistrust)

    Raphael just turned 1-year old and his mother had to leave to work in abroad for a year. Raphael and his mother have a very close relationship because of breastfeeding and comfort. In Erickson's first stage, trust vs mistrust, the crisis is between gaining trust that his father will be there as a source of support and be able to make him feel safe, comfortable and provide affection and not to make him feel in danger and neglected (mistrust).
  • Raphael's developing independence (Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt)

    Raphael's developing independence (Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt)
    Raphael’s begins to assert his independence. Although Raphael struggles to tie his shoes correctly, his parents patiently waits for him to succeed or offer assistance once he gets frustrated. In Erikson’s second stage of autonomy vs shame and doubt, the crisis is between Raphael’s increased independence and become more confident and know their own skills and abilities (autonomy) and not become dependent on others, feel a sense of shame and doubt their abilities (shame and doubt).
  • Raphael's team ( Industry vs Inferiority

    Raphael's team ( Industry vs Inferiority
    Raphael joined after school activities. His parents encouraged him to feel confident even if sometimes they would lose. Raphael became aware of his limitations and understands that he can always improve to develop his potential. In Erikson’s fourth stage of Industry vs Inferiority, the crisis is between being able to provide reinforcements and encouragement to Raphael’s abilities so he can achieve his goals and not to be feel restricted that he ends up doubting his own abilities.
