    Start of the Revolution
Nicolaus Copernicus or also known by his true Polish name Mikolaj Kopernik was a reknowned mathmetician, philosopher, and astronomer. He is known for his controversial book "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" and his objection of the theory that the Earth was the center of our solar system. He revolutionized the world of astronomy with his "heliocentric theory" declaring contrary to popular belief that the Sun is the center of the solar system and not the Earth. Photo Credit:(Redd)

Even though Nicolaus Copernicus passed away before his book could really spread throughout the astronomy community. It received much controversy and made many people "second-guess" the current theories in place, therefore jump-starting a deeper investigation into our solar system for hundreds of years to come. Focal Point

Nicolaus Copernicus finished the first manuscript of his book "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" revealing his infamous "heliocentric theory" in 1532, he didn't publish his book until 1543. The publishing of his book came roughly two months before passing away at the age of 70 in Poland. The only problem with his theory was the fact that he stuck to the idea that the planets traveled in circles not ellipses which wasn't found until the 1600's by Kepler.
