Iron hands were designed. Used by a series of releases and springs. Full leg that allowed locking in at the knee. -

During and after the civil war american amputation numbers rose. This caused America to really jump in to the field of prosthetics. During world war 1 and 2 america was behind in the field of prosthetics. Today prosthetics are much lighter. Instead of being made with iron, copper, bronze, and wood, they are made of materials like plastic, aluminum, and composite materials to allow amputees a wider range of motion and better movement.
