    This causes everyone in the neighborhood to be excited. Especially for the Bennets because they have five unmarried daughters looking for a wealthy spouse.

    Jane gets Mr. Bingley's attention and the two of them start dancing. Mr. Darcy insults Elizabeth and doesn't dance with anyone else but the people in his party.
  • Jane visits Netherfield

    Jane visits Netherfield
    Jane ends up staying there for a couple of days because she gets sick. Mr. Bingley takes good care of her. Elizabeth visits her sister and Mr. Darcy feels like he is paying to much attention to Elizabeth.
  • Collins arrives at Longbourn

    Collins is a clergyman who serves Lady Catherine de Bourgh and will inherit Mr. Bennet's property when he dies. He is a distant cousin of Mr. Bennet. He is searching for a wife.

    Elizabeth notices that Wickham and Darcy are extremely cold to each other. Elizabeth gets closer to Wickham and he lies to her about his situation with Darcy. She believes him and despises him more.

    Elizabeth is disappointed that Wickham isn't there and blames Darcy. To her surprise, Darcy asks her to dance and she agrees without thinking. She asks him about Wickham and have a tense conversation about it.

    Elizabeth is embarrassed at her mother's gossip with Lady Lucas about Jane and Bingley getting engaged. Elizabeth notices that Mr. Darcy overheard them. She becomes even more embarrassed as her whole family except Jane act idiotically. To make things worse she is followed the whole time by Mr. Collins.

    He promises never to bring up the fact that she gives so little money to the marriage. Elizabeth is uncomfortable and wants to laugh at him. She regains her composer and politely refuses. Charlotte begins spending more time with Collins. Within a few days, he proposes to her and she accepts.

    Bingley leaves Netherfield
    This is supposed to be a temporary visit to London. His sister writes to Jane telling her that they are spending a lot of time with Georgiana Darcy and indicates that she would like Georgiana to marry Mr. Bingley. Jane is shocked and sad by the news. Elizabeth is suspicious of the role Darcy played on keeping them apart and reassures Jane.

    Collins and Charlotte Marry
    Elizabeth cannot believe her friend would marry when she doesn't love him. Before they leave for Collins' parsonage in Hunsford, Charlotte asks Elizabeth to visit her soon.

    Elizabeth is unimpressed with their marriage. Darcy and his cousin, Fitzwilliam, visit the parsonage and Elizabeth is impressed with his cousin's kindness. Elizabeth learns from Fitzwilliam about Mr. Darcy's interference in Mr. Bingley's relationship. Now she wants to avoid Mr. Darcy.

    Darcy shocks Elizabeth with a declaration of love for her. She was flattered, but then outraged when he states he resisted his feelings for her because of her inferior social class. She harshly refuses and cries for half an hour afterward.
  • Lydia elopes with Wickham

    Lydia elopes with Wickham
    Elizabeth's little sister is manipulated into an elopement. Elizabeth visits Pemberley and meets Darcy, Georgiana, and the Bingleys. Her feelings for Darcy are slowly starting to change. After receiving news about the elopement she returns to Longbourn. Darcy leaves for London to fix the situation. Although they are not married, they have been convinced to do so, provided that Wickham's debts are paid and Lydia receives a small yearly stipend.

    Bingley returns to Netherfield
    After Wickham leaves with Lydia, Bingley and Darcy return. Darcy tells Bingley about his interference with Jane.
  • Bingley proposes to Jane

    Bingley proposes to Jane
    At first, Jane was hesitant to talk to Bingley. Bingley continued to visit anyways and finally proposed Jane. Jane accepted because her feelings for him haven't changed. After thinking about her sisters' marriages, Elizabeth reflects at how perfectly matched she and Darcy would have been. She wishes for a future with Darcy but feels as if it is completely hopeless now.
  • Lady Catherine visits Longbourn

    Lady Catherine visits Longbourn
    She unexpectedly visits in order to talk to Elizabeth. She has heard a rumor that Darcy and Elizabeth are about to be engaged. She is determined to stop the proposal and any romance between them. Elizabeth refuses to be intimidated by her.
  • Darcy proposes to Elizabeth (again)

    Darcy tells Elizabeth that he still loves her and wants to marry her. Elizabeth responds by telling him that her feelings have changed and that she loves him too.
  • Jane and Bingley marry, Elizabeth and Darcy marry

    Jane and Bingley marry, Elizabeth and Darcy marry
    Darcy and Elizabeth's engagement is an expected shock to the family. After they are married, life progresses happily for the two couples.
