President Bush signs a $1.35 trillion tax cut into law. Although the amount falls short of the $1.60 trillion the administration has been seeking, the bill does slash income tax rates across the board and provides for the gradual elimination of the estate tax. -
9/11
9/11 was an attack on the United States by a terrorist organization known as Al Qaeda, lead by Osama Bin Laden. The terrorists hijacked several planes and crashed them into The World Trade Center and The Pentagon. This was the first major terrorist attack against the United States. -
No Child Left Behind Created
The No Child Left Behind Act, made in 2001, was an Act that reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. It required all public schools receiving federal funding to administer a statewide standardized test annually to all students. Each year the children were supposed to score better than the previous year of the same class, to try and push schools to have kids do better. -
Bush Establishes the Department of Homeland Security
The department was created in response to 9/11 attacks. 18 members of congress sponsored it and it became the largest federal government organization. -
The U.S Congress authorizes the declaration of war with Iraq --
President Bush and his administration came to the decision that the U.S. needed to go to war with Iraq because of the imminent threat of Saddam's weapons of mass destruction and ties to terrorism. In 2003 the US started an insurgence to overthrow Saddam and his government. The war ended in 2011 -
Bush signs the HIV/AIDS Act.
The act was a government initiative to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic and is considered to be one of the largest health initiative who's purpose is to combat disease. -

Saddam Hussein is found guilty of war crimes
Saddam Hussein was the 5th president of Iraq. He is found guilty of war crimes, President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair accusing him of possessing weapons of mass destruction and having ties to al-Qaeda, and is hung in Bagdad, Iraq. Media Coverage helped influence the public perception of his execution, saying it was an 'end to a dark time of Iraqi history.' -
Bush issues a 17.4 billion auto bailout to General Motors and Chrysler
Bush was attempting to prevent the collapse of the auto industry which could lead to greater economic problems. Both companies had been near bankruptcy. -
