  • Success at potty training

    Success at potty training
    Sebastian demonstrated self-awareness at two years of age when he smiled at the sight of toothpaste on his check while staring at the mirror. Self-awareness is when children are aware of themselves and they usually start developing that knowledge around 12 months (pp. 175). Being self-aware, accompanied by physical development are two main components of Sebastian recent achievement of being potty trained (pp. 213) . He i is aware of having an urge to pee and now he gets himself to basinet.

    Age 3, Theory-of-Mind
    Sebastian showed signs of theory-of-the-mind when he lied about eating a cookie before dinner. His answer to my question was “no” and when I inquired about the cookie crumbs on his cheek he wiped them out with his hand and said that he had followed the trail of crumbs to the kitchen. Theory-of-mind is exhibited by children who have achieved an understanding of “how the mind works and how it influences behavior” (pp. 175).   • Riding a bike

    Riding a bike
    Sebastian has demostrated an improvement in gross-motor skills. We went to the park today with his bicycle and he was able to ride with bike without my help or the training wheels. Riding a bike is evidence of muscle coordination and tunning which is a characteristic of gross motor development in school age children (pp. 282).

    10, Mastery
    Sebastian has been focusing his efforts on excelling in his school assignments and activities at school. He spends most of his time at home either attending his homework or working on his building skills. He likes building structures with legos and is really good a anything that is realating to constructing things. Sebastian is going through the Erikson's Industry versus inferiority in which children focus on achieving competency (Feldman, 2012, p. 328).
  • 12, Facial Hair

    12, Facial Hair
    Sebastian is going through puberty, which is the period of time in which sexual organs matures(Feldman, 2012, p. 354). He is starting to show chest hair and facial hair. At his school his classmates are beginning to shave, so he's started to insist he also wants to learn how to shave his facial hair and asked his father to teach him yesterday.
  • 16, First Job

    16, First Job
    Sebastian has been expressing his interest in conservation efforts to raise awareness of issues affecting the environment. He started volunteering at events hosted by Anchorage Park Foundation and now got his first part-time job working as an outreach assistant. In this role he gets to go to local events and set up a booth with information on the agency's conservation efforts. According to our textbook, employment teaches teens about workplace skills and responsibility (Feldman, 2012, p. 389)

    18, Considering Jobs
    Sebastian has been working for Anchorage Parks Foundation for a year now. He really enjoys his time at his job and is starting to consider how his skillset fits with the industry. According to Ginzberg, Sebastian is experiencing the Tentative Period of development in which adolescents think pragmatically about job requirements (Feldman, 2012, p. 396)
  • 19, Career Chosen!

    19, Career Chosen!
    Sebastian finally chose a career path to committ to. He decided to go to collegue for sustainable engineering, as he would like to work on team that designs and implements sustainable energy in the form of wind turbines and solar panels. Through his work at Anchorage Parks Foundaiton he met engirneers with similar interests in building and designing as him. His committment to this particular identity is called Identity Achievement (Feldman, 2012, p. 410)
