JACKSONIAN DEMOCRATS
Led by Andrew Jackson, they came to power of the democrats in 1828. The, sadly, had to fight in the civil war and were severely crippled (enough to not be in power anymore) -

REPUBLICANS
When the Jacksonian Democrats were down, they swooped in and were left to run the country in the way that they wanted to. This went on for 75 years -

ROOSEVELT DEMOCRATS
After the Great Depression, the political landscape changed and in '32, Franklin Roosevelt was elected for presidency. They were southerners, small farmers, organized labor, and big city political organizations. They focused on social welfare and economic programs. -

MODERN DEMOCRATS
They are liberal and were open to change. They favored a minimum wage and progressive taxation, decreasing military spending, supporting the legality of abortion, and the belief in community and that people should be socially responsible. -

They have to share the spotlight of power with Democrats since we haven't had a government characterized by either party, consistently holding power, since 1968
