Atomic explosion in Nagasaki, and Hiroshima
On August 6, 1945, America dropped the world´s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The bomb whipped out 90% of the city and completely flattened buildings. Three days later, a second B-29 bomber dropped another atomic bomb over the city of Nagasaki killing 40,000 people. The Americans viewed the bombs as a ¨necessary evil¨. -
The Tet offensive
In late January, 1968, during the lunar new year or (tet) holiday, north Vietnamese and communist viet cong forces launched a corridnated attack on south vietnamese targets. The US and south vietnamese sustained heavy losses before finally repelling the north. The Tet offensive played a huge role in weakening US public support of the war.
