The 7/8 white man Homer Plessy dosen't sit in the Jim Crow car
Homer Plessy was 1/8 black. This meant -this was common back then- he was "black". Even though he bought first class tickets (whites only car) he had to go to the Jim Crow car. Plessy refused to move because he had more white ancestors than black. -
Judge Ferguson says "guilty!" to Plessy
Judge John Howard Ferguson said that Homer Plessy was guilty as charged.This was during the time where The Jim Crow Laws were still highly effective and segragation was promoted after this. -
Plessy is jailed
Plessy was found guilty only because:one he was not moving to the Jim Crow car, and second the train never left. Now that was unfair to us, but it was against the law to do this. -
Plessy freed same date jailed?
Yes getting free when just getting jailed isn't common, but back then it was still posible to do it. His lawyer bailed him by paying the cost for it. -
Plessy was jailed for being 1/8 black in an all white car and is 7/8 white
Plessy's defense against the police officer when asked to move by him was, "I'm more white than black.".The officer arrested him for not moving from the white car of the train. -

Plessy lived a long, healthy life but it sadly came to an end on March 1st 1925. -
Plessy was 62 when he died
You may think Plessy is a lucky man for living this long but he's not. Homer Plessy was getting married on the day he died. This was not an unnatural death by a toxin or assasination, it was age that got to poor old Plessy. -

50 years after Plessy's death, his relatives and John Freguson's relatives came together to make Plessy day.
