Education Legislation Timeline

  • Pyler V Doe.

    In the Plyler V. Doe case Texas revised the aw on children who are "aliens" to the country were not allowed access to public education. Doing so Texas violated the Equal Protection Clause. The court came to an agreement that denying immigrants an education would later harm society because of uneducated people
  • Plessy V

    Homer Plessy was on his way to ride the bus. The bus he decided to ride was reserved for whites only. Plessy would refer to himself as one-eighth African American blood, and seven-eighths white. He was arrested however because he was not fully Caucasian. He made a remarkable point that is "Separate but equal" actually following the constitutions 14 amendment.
  • Brown V. Board of Education

    Oliver Brown wanted his daughter Linda Brown to attend their local elementary school. However, Linda was not granted access to the school because it was an "all white" school. Brown wanted his daughter to receive the best education. The "white only" schools had better tools than other schools. After the court came to an agreement that segregation made African American children feel inferior.
  • Title IX

    This provided children with all genders to be equal. No student should feel denied or excluded any benefits under federal funding. This law gave men and women an opportunity to be equal and be granted the same rights. The law IX prohibits sex discrimination in all institutions.
  • Education of all Handicapped Children Act

    This law was made to grant the ability to all students with disabilities better quality of education based on their need. The act gave students an equal access to education for students with mental or physical disabilities. The law gave funding to schools to help students with disabilities and encourage their learning abilities.
