  • Gawler river named

    On 22 November 1838, T.B. Strangways and S. Blunden set out to find suitable sites for special surveys. They crossed the river which they named after Governor Gawler.
  • John SMITH arrives in South Australia

    John SMITH arrives in South Australia
    John Smith, founder of Smithfield, arrives in the infant colony, on board the "Gem" from Port Phillip. He is accompanied by his wife Ann Neilson.
  • Ezekial John arrives in Adelaide

    When the ship Success berthed at Port Adelaide on January 27th, 1848 among the passengers disembarking was a lad of 13 years from Redruth, Cornwall, England, Ezekial Johns. John's road is named after him.
  • Jonathon Roberts purchases land

    Jonathon Roberts set out northwards across the plains and selected a spot in the Peachey Belt area. He came with his wife, three boys and two girls, all very young. Jonathon gave the name “Carclew” to his selection, the reasons are not known. Jonathon probably made his selection before the land was surveyed.   • Angle Vale Bridge opening

    Heaslip Road, Angle Vale. Designed by C.F.G. Ashwin and built by Hack & Parker, completing it in 1876. The bridge was opened by Miss Elizabeth Heaslip on 22 November 1876.

    The Govenor of South Austalia, Sir Edric Bastyan granted the new town as its own local government, to be known as The Corporation of the Town of Elizabeth.
