Pip's Life and Mine

  • Pip's Parents Die

This event is not mentioned in the book, but plays a major role in shaping the plot of Great Expectations. Had his parents not died, Pip would not have been raised at the forge by his sister, drastically altering his point of view in life.
  • Pip Meets the Convict

This is the "ball that gets the story rolling." It provides a bit of suspense concerning the convict's background, and the chapters involving the convict reflect a great deal of faintly noticeable foreshadowing. And of course, he wouldn't be able to do anything without Magwitch.
  • Pip Meets Estella and Miss Havisham

This is another major point in Pip's life because Miss Havisham's hate and Estella's comments fuel the creation of a snobby young "gentleman" in Pip. His main life's goal becomes pleasing Estella, and almost everything he does after this point is for her. He begins to feel overly self concious and starts losing his unbiased innocence toward the people in his life.
  • Pip Has A Benefactor

This ultimately starts Pip's journey into London where he uncovers answers to his own questions and more mysterious aspects about things related to his own life. Also, Jaggers notifying Pip of an anonymous benefactor adds to Pip's increasingly snobbish character, as he has now led himself to believe Miss Havisham is funding for him to be a gentleman so he can marry Estella.
  • Herbert

Herbert is one of the few characters Pip respects at all throughout the book. The young men quickly get over their differences as boys and place their utmost trust in each other after realizing they had fought in the garden at Satis House.
  • The Death of Mrs. Joe

Most people suspect that Mrs. Joe was attacked by Orlick or a convict, which ignites a tinge of guilt in Pip. Because of her death, Joe can marry Biddy later in the book.
  • Uncle Provis

Magwitch shows up on Pip's doorstep one stormy night, which starts the "rehumanizing" of Pip since Herbert's advice makes him acknowledge the fact that he must be grateful to this man who worked so hard for him. Pip comes to terms with all of his misconseptions when Magwitch is on his deathbed.
  • Miss Havisham's Confession

As Miss Havisham lays dying after Pip rescues her from a fire, she confesses to Pip her past and the mystery of the origins of Estella. Pip is finally jolted into reality and accepts Miss Havisham never liked him nor did she ever intend for him to be with Estella.
  • Ohai

    I'm born, I guess.
  • Dad Starts Throwing Me Into Pools

    "Sink or swim," he said.

I swam, and later joined a swim team, but an injury followed through with that.
  • TURRRTLEEEE.

I needed another event. This is when I met our tortoises, and we still have a herd of them in our backyard.
  • Grandpa Dies

He's the first close relative I know that dies.
  • The Letter

I got into OA and end up doing more homework than my other friends for the next 3 years.
  • cross country

I meet many people that end up being important in my life, and also find out I can, apparently, run.
  • CIFs

CIFs as a freshman are supposed to be good. Better college resume, I guess.
