    The Beagle Voyage (1832-1836)
This event was crucial to shaping Darwin's career. He left for the five year journey at the age of twenty-two, sailing around the world documenting fossils, geological structures, plants and animals. His journey yielded many questions and drove his need for answers. He found long lost species fossils and became entrenched in the idea of life very long ago. Many can say that if Darwin had not taken this voyage opportunity, we would not have had the same Darwin that he had become.

Published, "On the Origin of Species"
When Darwin published his book he sparked conversation amongst the religious, scientific, and philosophical community. In his book he talks about the theory of natural selection. Species evolve over time through the process of natural selection. This was the base for the theory of evolution and the start of a rather large paradigm shift. His two main goals were to demonstrate that species had not been created separate, and that natural selection played a large role.

Darwin demonstrates the effects of inbreeding
Darwin publishes, "The Effects of Cross and Self Fertilisation in the Vegetable Kingdom." In his book he provides experimental evidence that inbreeding may cause negative effects on the progeny. Over the course of his life he has studied a good portion of biological experiments. This is just one example. It is safe to say that Darwin shifted the scientific thinking of physics and chemistry being the sciences with all the answers and brought it down to biology as well.
